Hatune Miku (VOCALOID2)

・Hatsune Miku is a Singing Voice Software Synthesizer developed and sold by Crypton Future Media.

・This is the first volume in the “Character Vocal Series (CV Series)”, which uses Yamaha’s voice synthesis
    engine VOCALOID2.

・It is designed to appeal even to customers who do not normally use DTM (Desktop Music) software, which is
software used to synthesize music. You create the vocal part by inputting the pitch and lyrics. In order to control
the accompaniment, you will need to prepare an accompaniment part separately.

・Due to concern that emulating an orthodox singer would be too unexpected, the company decided to go with the
concept of “the idol of the future.” The base for Miku’s voice was provided by voice actress Fujita Saki.

・Normally, DTM software is considered a major success if it sells 1,000 copies in a year. This product, however,
sold over 3,000 copies in its first two weeks, and after three weeks it accounted for 30% of all sound-related
software sales. (This data does not include sales from instrument stores and internet stores.)

・As of October 10, 2007, 15,000 copies have been sold. A demo version was released in DTM Magazine’s November
2007 issue, which sold out in only 3 days despite many extra copies having been printed. Following this, internet
auctions saw a temporary price spike.
