Doujin-shi

Every weekend in Japan, doujinshi conventions are held. The doujinshi sold cover a vast range of
genres, and the amount handled is enormous.

Acquiring doujinshi and doujin games from Japan without using auction sites is still quite difficult.
Akiba Is Mine was started in order to bring doujinshi and doujin games to overseas fans of anime
and manga.

We focus on stocking quality items that are difficult to get from other sources.

Doujinshi are produced not only by amateurs, but also by professional artists who make them as
part of their creative activities. Such items are considered valuable collectables.

Because artists pay for publications themselves, reprinting is rare. Once an item is sold out, it is
usually never sold again. Please don’t let this chance get away.

The History of Doujin-shi

The word “doujinshi” is an abbreviation of “doujinzasshi”, which are periodicals published by people
with similar hobbies and interests who pool their money. These people are called “doujin.”

Doujinshi were originally published by people with a shared interest in the field of literature,
but now the practice is most widespread among fans of entertainment such as manga and anime.

In fact, the bias is so great that when one says “doujinshi” without specifying a field, they almost
always mean manga and anime doujinshi.

The first doujinshi in the field of creative writing was the Garakuta Bunko, published in 1885.
The first manga doujinshi was published in 1945, and in 1975 the first Comic Market was held.
However, it’s only been since 1990 that doujinshi have become as widely published as they are today.

About Derivative Works

Derivative works are doujinshi and other creative works that are based on the work of another artist.

In Japan, the idea that derivative works should not be banned simply because they infringe upon
copyrights is becoming more and more common.

After all, many of the publishers who hold the copyrights consider derivative works useful in actively
promoting the sale of their products.

For example, there are anthologies of derivative works published with the consent of the copyright
holders, and publishers have sponsored doujinshi conventions centered on their works.
